Karla Adolphe

Over the past six years, Karla Adolphe has created a diverse career for herself touring North America in a 40ft RV performing in Jacob and Lily, The Emporiums or as a solo artist. Karla is currently writing songs for an album devoted to the subject of grief, expect this album May 2012.

In September 2011 the song You Are Mine was licensed to the television show Hart of Dixie on the CW network for the pilot episode.  Karla was also selected as one of 5 Co-Winners at the 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, and performed live on NPR/internationally broadcast Mountain Stage radio/television show.

Over the past three years Karla has had multiple recordings included on compilations such as the Record of the Week Club, Manitoba Music, Bridge Songs and Manitoba Roots, as well as collaborations with Jacob and Lily, The Emporiums, Aaron Strumpel, The Black Thorn Project and Enter the Worship Circle.

Karla is an exceptional vocalist and songwriter and enjoys participating in workshops where both talents can be imparted and shared with your audience.  Her unique combination of heartbreaking songs and killer wit will leave your audience with tears in their eyes!

The Emporiums

The Emporiums is a new musical pairing of acclaimed songwriters Karla Adolphe and Aaron Strumpel. Two warm and rich voices, combined with intelligent songwriting, form a sound scape of contemplation and self discovery.

The Singing Well is an album crafted rather than recorded; all the songs were written over a 3-days and were commissioned and co written for the album. A rootsy, Americana feel pervades the album which includes throw backs to deep South gospel traditions and special attention to integrative, gorgeous harmonies.

Consider the Emporiums for workshops that feature trumpet, crunchy guitar work, gospel and soul throw backs and group interaction.  The Emporiums tour with Caleb Friesen who is an accomplished drummer recently featured on Del Barber’s Juno nominated album Songs for the last Twenty.

Jacob and Lily

Jacob and Lily are known for their complex fusion-style rhythms and innovative, spontaneous songs which never fail to create an electric atmosphere that captivates their audiences. Incorporating the cajon beat box, world percussion instruments and a partial drum kit, Caleb Friesen is the perfect compliment to Karla Adolphe’s powerful voice and award winning songwriting.

Past Festival Performances include:  The Winnipeg Folk Festival, BarrieFolk, Home County Folk Festival, Trout Forest Folk Festival, Brandon Folk Festival, Blue Skies Festival and Live from the Rock.  Jacob and Lily will be recording a follow up album to their 2007 CFMA nominated debut album The Cathedral and expect the album in late 2012.

Jacob and Lily thrive in workshops and are comfortable adding percussion, vocal harmonies and hosting capabilities to the stage.

House Concerts

House concerts are intimate gatherings of music lovers and friends, often punctuated by amazing hospitality and great conversation.  All of the Rusty Caravan projects are well suited for the house concert setting and can be modified and as creative as you, the host, likes!  We have played backyards, porches, decks, living rooms, basements, kitchens, farms, barns, cottages, birthdays, anniversaries, small groups, bible studies, basically you name it, we have enjoyed playing it!
