Went to Evelyn’s Cafe here in High River on a spontaneous lunch date with my boys. Hudson loved the train that went around the ceiling, Gary and I loved watching him be so happy. We ordered the winter salad and dang!!!!!!!
I don’t know the official recipe but here are the components of the salad, experiment with it!
Arugula
Chick Peas
Celery
Red Onions
Grapefruit
Red Cabbage
Vinagrette salad dressing
PS I would have added some goat/feta cheese to take it over the top!

Graceland and Graveyards is a project close to Karla’s heart, inspired by the death of a dear friend’s daughter, this album is a collection of songs written for people in the midst of the journey of grief.
About a year ago Karla was privileged to be at the hospital when a dear family said goodbye to their daughter. In the midst of that beautiful and heart-wrenching day Karla witnessed music play an important role in the early stages of grief. The goal of this project is to create a FREE digital album that walks alongside those in the midst of grief; a collection of music, spaces, poetry and stories that can be played while you journal, take a drive, cry or nap.
The songs have been inspired by a collection of personal stories, poetry and memoirs Karla obtained from audience members and those connected to her online community. Karla will be working with Producer Latifah Phillips (Autumn Film, Page CXVI) and Producer/Engineer David WIlton (Josh Garrels, Autumn Film, Page CXVI, Aaron Strumpel, Enter the Worship Circle) and will be recording at St. Ida’s Studio on Lafayette, CO in mid Feb.
PARTNER WITH US!
This album will be completely listener funded and available for free digital download. What that means is Karla will not recoup any of her $9800 budget with cd sales. The goal is to raise at least $7500 by April 1, 2012 to cover the costs of recording, producing, mixing and mastering and marketing the album.
As a partner, you can choose to support the project for as little as $10 or as much as $1000, all of which include Perks Packages (gifts and incentives) for you! We are excited to offer incentives like access to Karla’s previous and future Digital Recordings, T-shirts, Photography, Concert Tickets in select cities, Songwriting Workshops and more!
Please consider joining our team; it is ONLY with your help Karla will create a resource that will aid those in the midst of grief!!! What an amazing opportunity to share and support Karla’s vision and passion to create meaningful art.
Thank you for your help!

Hey guys, we decided to try to bake a rack of ribs for some friends last night, we rocked them!
1 rack Pork ribs
Salt + Pepper
Paprika
Garlic Powder
Thaw the pork ribs, I took mine out of the freezer about 6hrs before cooking. Cut the ribs into single pieces. Create a rub with salt and pepper, paprika and garlic powder, taste with your finger for desired intensity and flavor. Rub each rib with the mixture. Bake at 350F for 35-45 min.
Thanks Dad for the recipe!

We are excited to announce that Karla is set to record a new solo album in mid Feb! The album is written entirely on the subject of the grief associated with losing a loved one.
Last year on Jan 28, Karla was present at the passing of a close friend’s daughter. It was a profound and moving experience which inspired ideas and thoughts about writing and recording an album to assist with the journey of grief. Karla’s experience with grief has been limited, so she began to ask audience members and her online community for stories, poetry, songs etc about grief or losing a loved one. The response has been beautiful and overwhelming, and now a small collection of works is emerging and it is time to take a snapshot and record an album.
Karla will be working with acclaimed sound engineer/producer David Wilton (Josh Garrels, Aaron Strumpel, Autumn Film and EWC) and songwriter/producer Latifah Phillips (Page CXVI and Autumn Film) at St. Ida’s Studio in Lafayette, CO this Feb! These two artists will bring exceptional talent and instincts to the project. Our hope is to create a recording that, as a whole, takes the individual on a journey through some of the emotions and ideas behind grief.
One exciting note about this project is that we will be giving away free digital downloads! We want the album to be a gift to those in the midst of grief and hope to see it land in the hands of listeners both new and old.
Here is a sneak peak at one of the songs that will be on the album, it is called Room For Me. This version was recorded a while ago and will be re recorded for the new album.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

It is a New Year and we are all recovering from the wrath of Holiday goodies and parties. Maybe you are like me and you traveled to see your family, or maybe you are crazy like me and combined travel with moving for the 4th time in 13 months
I am a sucker for that kind of punishment, that is for sure.
I am now 31 years old, a mother, a self employed artist and dreamer of numerous dreams and facing the challenges of time and energy. In my 20′s all of these components of my life spun on the energy of determination and the strength of what I believed I could “do” (code for control). The greatest gift and mystery of motherhood is how a tiny person, who can barely do anything on its own but poop and cry, completely rattle my kingdom, the world I created for myself, with only myself in mind!
Thankfully I feel like I am entering a new season where I am less angry and dumbfounded by my son’s ability to completely rearrange my life and now I am beginning to receive and enjoy the restructured world I am now a part of. In this new season I am seeing how I have always struggled to value myself, to put things like exercise, rest, creativity, reading etc in front of being productive. I am trying to say yes to the voice inside that has long been silenced.
Do you struggle with these types of conditions:
- Getting sick when you are finally on holidays
- Having trouble deciding what to do for a holiday, date night or a day off
- Loosing steam in areas of creativity or healthy habits
- Inconsistency
- Setting goals and not being able to follow through
Well I struggle with all of those issues, and I would venture to say they are rooted in a pathological de-valuing of oneself. Daily habits of rest say, “I am worth it, I need this, I am lovely, I am important” What if we live our daily life upsetting and ignoring the rhythms of my heart that say you are valued! So when I arrive at a day off, a week of holidays, a date night, or even the most cherished time of a mother’s day – naptime, I tend to suffer with anxiety, confusion and a general feeling of wasting time because I have not cultivated a respect for my heart’s rhythm.
My heart explodes and says ” I need all the rest and attention you have neglected right now, all at once!” So the expectations of my heart rise to the surface in a rage and swell and overwhelm me, I can no longer compartmentalize the needs and say, this naptime I will read a cooking magazine or watch my favorite show. I feel the eruption of ignored needs and am crushed under their weights and demands, and this is why I get suffer under the scenarios I listed above.
Having a child has opened my eyes to rhythm, Hudson needs a nap, and a meal and playtime pretty much all at the same time every day, he thrives in an environment of HONOR! When I am valuing his needs and honoring the uniqueness of what works for him, and he is at rest! I am taking time in this new year to take a second look at my schedule, to take time to make a place for each of my heart’s desires. I truly believe this is the only way to ease the swell of ignored heart’s desires. If we make time to rest, eat, play, exercise, talk, read etc all of those needs will, in themselves, rest knowing they will be honored in our weekly rhythms, and our bodies will adjust and obey and thrive!
Do you need help creating a culture of value in your schedule? Email me if you would like some help or a high five along the way!
